Homemade Cinnabon

I, for one, have been eating the same old same old breakfast every day for years (cheese sandwiches in case you’re wondering). So I decided that for a change, I’d either enjoy breakfast outdoors or bake something. Since everyone finds baking cinnamon rolls challenging, I decided to give it a try. It took me two recipes to find the closest recipe to the original Cinnabon. The cinnamon rolls I make literally taste like Cinnabon; mushy, delicious and infused with cinnamon. The best part of this recipe is the glaze; it is the creme of the crop (I’m proud I stumbled upon it)! This recipe and the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts one are two recipes that I will forever keep in my recipes box. Both recipes are the best of the best, in my opinion. I will surely win my kids’ love (and their friends) with them.
YOU WILL NEED…
For the dough: 1. 1 cup milk 2. 3 1/2 cups flour 3. 1/2 cup sugar 4. 3 Tbsp butter 5. 2 1/4 tsp yeast 6. 1 tsp salt 7. 1 large egg
For the filling: 1. 3/4 cup brown sugar 2. 2 Tbsp cinnamon 3. butter
For the glaze: 1. 4 ounces cream cheese 2. 1 cup powdered sugar 3. 1/4 cup butter 4. 1/2 vanilla tsp
In a glass bowl, add the milk and the butter. Microwave the mixture till the butter melts and it is warm. Pour this mixture into a bowl of 1 cup of the flour, sugar, egg, yeast and salt, then beat it on low speed for 3 minutes. Beat in 2 and 1/2 cups of the flour till it is absorbed and the dough is sticky (tip: always add the flour portion-wise). Turn the dough out on a floured workspace, then knead it till smooth and elastic for about 10 minutes. Form the dough into a ball. Transfer it to an oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel then leave it for 2 hours to rise.
In a bowl, prepare the filling by mixing the brown sugar and the cinnamon together. Once the 2 hours have passed, punch down the dough and roll out on floured surface. Spread the butter over the dough, then sprinkle the filling evenly over the butter. Gently roll the dough into a log (that part, I enjoy the most). With a thin sharp knife, cut the dough into 18 equal slices. Add a small amount of oil to two glass baking dishes, then divide and arrange the cinnamon rolls with the cut side up in baking dishes. Cover them with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel then leave them for 45 minutes to rise.
After the 45 minutes have passed, heat the oven and bake the cinnamon rolls till the tops are golden. It will take 15-20 minutes.

Now for the cherry on top, prepare the glaze! In a bowl, combine all the glaze ingredients mentioned above and beat the mixture till smooth. When the cinnamon rolls cool down, spread the glaze on them. I suggest you refrigerate the extra cream cheese glaze to dip the cinnamon rolls in as you eat them, trust me on this! If you wish your cinnamon rolls to taste even yummier, then top the rolls with some caramel or chocolate sauce. Or even sprinkle some nuts. Go crazy with the toppings!

This recipe takes a minimum of 5 hours to finish, so I suggest you plan something entertaining to do while you’re waiting. I always have some music on while baking and a movie to watch while waiting (it rhymes haha). Here is a list of 10 feel-good movies and another one of Oscar-nominated movie to choose from!
