My Christmas Rituals | Blogmas

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Everyone has their own Christmas rituals; some keep theirs very simple and some go the extra mile. I’m one of those people who go the simple way, at least for now. Now I’m not sure which of my Christmas rituals would you want me to tell you about; the real one or the fantasy one. So maybe I’ll let you in on both!

Real-Life Christmas Rituals

Just like Halloween, Egypt doesn’t properly celebrate Christmas. You’d only find one huge Christmas tree in the shopping malls and that’s probably all there is to Christmas in Egypt. So growing up, I wasn’t really aware of all the Christmas festivities that take place around the world, until so recently I discovered how big of a deal Christmas actually is. That’s when I started watching Christmas movies and paying attention to the festive details. I love how cheery everything gets; the people, the streets, the stores and even the food. It’s probably the only time of the year when people get happy because of the little things, and that’s like the first and simplest rule of happiness. I get to enjoy the little things with most people of the world which means I get to enjoy the happy side of people, for a while.

So although Egypt doesn’t offer the festive vibes I see online, I still celebrate Christmas my way. In December, you’ll find me in my Christmas pajamas in bed watching Christmas movies and vlogmases, and that’s as festive as it can usually get for me. It sounds sad but it makes me feel quite the opposite; happy and joyous. This year though, I’m willing to do more than the usual. For starters, writing blogmas posts in November are already giving me all the Christmas feels and excitement I’m hoping for. I’m going to watch vlogmas on a daily basis, Christmas movies in the weekends, and listen to Christmas songs in the mornings on my way to uni. Also, my friends and I are doing Secret Santa which I’ve never done before, so I’m very excited to receive my first Christmas present ever! Again, it might not sound like much but my Christmas plans for this year definitely beat the previous ones. I can’t wait to make them happen!

Fantasy-World Christmas Rituals

In my own fantasy, I’m one of those people who go the extra mile when it comes to Christmas. My Christmas rituals are the complete opposite of simple; I plan day-to-day rituals to keep the Christmas vibes in my house as strong as I can. From picking the perfect tree at the tree farm to wrapping Christmas gifts for friends, and all the in-between rituals; that’s how I do it. Real talk, that’s why I love watching Zoe’s vlogmas because her rituals are very similar to the ones I wish to do. And I do believe that someday in the future, my fantasy Christmas rituals will become my real ones. fingers crossed

To be honest, I feel slightly embarrassed to have shared with you my ‘non-existent’ Christmas rituals, but I’m sure some of you out there are just like me… right? Let me know in the comments below your usual Christmas rituals, and if you too have non-existent ones. Until tomorrow’s blogmas, cheers!
