Movies set the mind straight and feed the soul. In other words, if you fancy some good vibes or want to be emotionally consumed, or mind-blown, movies will set your mind and feed your soul with them feelings. And since we’re now 22 days away from Christmas, I’m sure many of you want to feed your soul with festive vibes just like me. Because a festive movie a day keeps the Grinch away!
I’ve never really limited watching Christmas movies to December only; I just watch one whenever I feel like it. But this December, I want to only watch Christmas movies for as many as I can. So aside from the movies I already know, I wanted to watch new ones. I googled the best Christmas movies ever produced and I’ve noticed two things: there are very few RomCom Christmas movies out there, and overall there aren’t as many Christmas movies as one would think there would be. That’s probably why most of us love watching the same movies. However, I’m still going to share with you my all-time picks of Christmas movies because movies are my thing yo!
1) Rise of the Guardians: This is an animation movie that brings all the holidays and their guardians together on a mission to protect the innocence of children from an evil spirit. The movie doesn’t only focus on Christmas but it does walk you through the process of making toys and sending them to children’s houses on Christmas Eve. Jack Frost will make the ice fall and Santa will make his way through Christmas trees so you’ll feel all Christmassy on the inside. I usually watch it when I just need a feel-good movie that doesn’t play with my emotions before the happy ending; playing it safe with my emotions haha.
2) Arthur Christmas: Another animation movie that puts you in the Christmasiest aura is this one! It’s about Santa’s son, Arthur, who is given a mission to give a young girl her present which was originally misplaced, in less than 2 hours. Arthur’s clumsiness doesn’t make his mission as easy as it sounds so it’s very entertaining to watch him try to deliver the gift on time. I’ve only watched it once a few years ago but I remember I felt very festive afterwards. This will definitely be the first Christmas movie I watch this December.
3) The Holiday: This movie is a RomCom where two women switch houses during the holiday for a change. Little did they know that that ‘change’ they wished for will change their life forever, or at least for the lifetime of the movie. The movie stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black; need I say more?! It’s the kind of movie that you don’t just watch on Christmas; you watch it whenever you’re in need of a feel-good movie. You’ll witness the birth of love during the jolliest time of the year. I used to watch it with my mum when I was young; it’s one of her favorite movies of all time.
4) Love Actually: A multi-star movie that narrates 8 different relationships that aren’t necessarily love ones; their stories are set just before Christmas day. I love how the movie creators didn’t just focus on love relationships and showcased other ones like a father-son relationship. I’m still easily fascinated when different characters’ stories loosely interrelate in this kind of movies. I can’t believe I’ve only properly watched it last Christmas; I feel like I’ve missed out on it all of those years.
5) Elf: This might come as a surprise to all of you Elf lovers out there because I have a confession to make; I purposely refused to watch Elf for about 1 year and a half… Simply because I really don’t like Will Ferrell! I hate the genre of movies he makes to the point that I can’t stand watching any of them. However, Elf seems to be everyone’s all-time favorite Christmas movie so I wanted to see what the big fuss is about. For those of you who don’t know what Elf is, although I highly doubt it, it’s about a man raised as an elf at the North Pole who goes looking for his true family in the US. He faces trouble adapting to the human world and that’s when the funny bits start. It’s a very Christmassy movie that is full of jingle bells and a Christmas carol that gave me goosebumps. I definitely see why the movie is in everyone’s list now!
6) Jingle All The Way: This was an all-time favorite movie when I was so little. It made me feel cozy before I even knew what that feeling is. The movie is a classic story of a dad going last-minute-gift-shopping for his son when he finds out that the ‘most wanted Christmas toy’ is sold out from every store in town. And so the adventures of trying to get his hands on it start, which are very entertaining to watch. I’ll make sure to watch this one with my brother this Christmas. I’m sure he’ll love it!
7) Home Alone 2 – Lost in New York: Obviously, I don’t need to tell you what this movie is because it’s a favorite for every single person in the world. I don’t think there has been a Christmas that passed by without watching this movie with my family; and I don’t think this Christmas will be any different. So with that being said, I had to include Home Alone in this list. I feel like most people specifically like part 2 the most just like me, but let me know in the comments below if that is true for you or not.
8) A Christmas Carol: I remember when this movie got released and almost everyone in my school went to see it. I didn’t though because for some unknown reason I thought it was a horror movie… But I’m older and wiser so I know better now, and that’s why I’ll finally watch it this Christmas. I hear it’s really good!
9) How the Grinch stole Christmas: Silly me again refused to watch this movie too because I think the Grinch looks ugly and scary! But apparently some people think it’s a must watch so I added it to my list. I’ll bring some company and watch it before the 25th; that’s a promise I made to myself.
10) Miracle on 34th street: Like I’ve said earlier, I wanted to see new Christmas movies this holiday. So I found this movie online, noticed that the girl from Matilda is in it and decided to add it to my list. I feel like it’s the kind of movie to watch on Christmas Eve though so I’ll be saving it to the end, and that’s why the movie made it to the end of this list.
So these are my list of movies that I’ll be watching this Christmas. I have got 3 new Christmas movies to watch but I’m secretly hoping that a new one gets released. *fingers crossed* Let me know in the comments below which one of the above movies is your favorite, or if you have any suggestions for me. Until tomorrow’s blogmas, cheers!
